Which Team should I Join?
The NorCal Youth Mountain Bike League organizes teams based on the school an athlete attends. If your school does not have a team, then you will join the local composite team. Below we have listed the local MTB teams in Oakland, Berkeley and Piedmont.
We compete in the NorCal High School Cycling League’s mountain bike race series in the late winter & early spring and Oakland Composite is an official member of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
Who coaches the teams?
NICA trains and licenses coaches to lead and assist each high school team. Licensing includes undergoing classroom/online education (including safety/risk management), on-the-bike skills training, wilderness first aid and a background/security check. Many of or coaches are parents of riders and we also have coaches who see the impact mountain biking can have on kids and volunteer their time to support our teams. Interested in being a coach? Check out our Coaching page and email us to set up a time to ride with us!
How can I join or try it out?
Below is a list of the local high school & middle school mountain bike teams in the east bay. Email the team associated with your high school. If your high school does not have a team, then reach out to the local composite team.
