Oakland Composite

2019 SEASON GOALS: In the past Oakland Composite has been able to field a team of approximately 30-40 racers from a broad socioeconomic and ethnic background.   We strive to do extensive outreach throughout Oakland to continue to provide opportunities for the under-privileged segments of our community.  Our focus is on fun, not race results. (And yet we win!) We strive to include all kids in our program, and to make mountain biking and racing accessible to all. To that end we have provided race bikes to kids without bikes and maintain a stable of loaner race bikes at all times.  We also have a strong focus on recruiting and encouraging young women into the sport.

In 2016 we laid the groundwork for launching several school-based teams.  This year those teams are a reality, but they continue to need support from Oakland Composite. We will be working with these schools to put in place the infrastructure to make these teams self-sufficient and ensure continuing success.  

2019 NEEDS: Donations and grants ensure equal access for all students in the Oakland area that have a desire to ride and race by offsetting the costs of racing which include registration fees, travel costs, equipment costs, refreshments, etc.
